Web site offers ride sharing connections
By Monique Bos Published: Friday, May 20, 2005 RideCheck LLC hosts a Web site, www.ridecheck.com, that provides a database for ride-sharing across the United States and Canada. The company announced that it is ready for expanded summer listings. Both those looking for rides and those interested in finding passengers can utilize the free service, which is available to all members of college communities in North America. Users can access an online database of road trips in order to facilitate carpooling, share travel expenses, and reduce pollution and traffic congestion. Those seeking a ride may search according to a number of criteria, including departure date and location, destination, gender and smoking habits. In addition, students can register to receive information about newly posted rides. The Web site offers security measures to protect private information. “RideCheck will be very helpful for making cost-efficient summer travel plans,” said Clyde Mitchell, the site’s principal founder. “The more students that use the site, the more effective it will be for everyone.” Mitchell, who graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, founded the site as a way to expand the travel opportunities often posted on bulletin boards at college campuses. A ride board for SCAD students only is also available on The Hive at http://thehive.scad.edu. |
