The Chronicle stops the presses
By: Beth E. Concepción Published: Friday, March 7, 2008 Since its birth November 2001, The Chronicle has served as an important information resource for the Savannah College of Art and Design community. Over the past six years, though, the information needs of students, staff, faculty, prospective students, their teachers and parents have changed, as have the means. There are more ways than ever to tell everyone about the great things going on at SCAD. With the recent redesign of The Chronicle Web site — which has been averaging 150,000 hits per month — we realized that The Chronicle content could be used more efficiently within the context of the main SCAD Web site. And we realized that personnel could be used more efficiently as well. Therefore, this will be the last issue of The Chronicle. The fantastic staff of The Chronicle is ready to take on new challenges. Monique Bos, managing editor, will remain in the college’s editorial department as senior publications editor. She will work to maximize the editorial content for the SCAD Web site. Glen Osterberger, art director, will continue to advise the student graphic design staff of District, and also will become an important part of the Web site design team. Kim Herrington in Savannah and Tish Spaulding in Atlanta will continue selling display ads for District and Connector, as well as for college publications, Web sites and e-mail newsletters. Aisha Michael will continue selling classified advertising for District in print and online. In the next few months, look for the scad.edu site to begin featuring more editorial content, such as alumni profiles, “professor of the week” and “class in spotlight.” You also will be able to subscribe to an RSS feed to receive notifications of site updates. In addition, the SCAD editorial department will be developing a new publication, SCAD Connections, that will serve to further strengthen the college’s academic reputation among professionals and other educational organizations. With both internal and external readers, SCAD Connections will feature alumni and faculty profiles, as well as SCAD’s noteworthy accomplishments, such as the recent DesignIntelligence No. 1 ranking for the interior design graduate program. This quarterly publication also will be distributed on campus and will be available online. It has been a great run, but it is time to concentrate our resources on telling the world about the amazing things that SCAD students, faculty, staff and alumni accomplish. As always, if you have good story ideas, please let me know. |
