Titus Kaphar to speak at SCAD
Titus Kaphar's "Kindling" demonstrates his technique of cut canvas oil painting. Published: Monday, March 3, 2008 Titus Kaphar, who recently concluded a term as artist in residence at the Studio Museum in Harlem, N.Y., will present an artist talk at the Savannah College of Art and Design March 7, 4 p.m. Kaphar's exhibition "Painting Undone" is on display at the college's Red Gallery, 201 E. Broughton St., through April 3. He will speak at the gallery just prior to the monthly gallery hop, which takes place 5-7 p.m. Kaphar creates oil-on-canvas copies of European and American portrait paintings from the 18th and 19th centuries and then reconfigures them in strategic ways. The lecture, exhibition and gallery hop all are free and open to the public. Read more about Kaphar's work in the March 7 issue of The Chronicle. |
