Get on board ‘Trains’

By: Emily Green Published: Friday, June 2, 2006 Time is running out to cast votes in the Scion xPress Fest for “Trains,” the Summerbirds in the Cellar video directed by Savannah College of Art and Design senior film and television major Mike Goubeaux. Scion premiered the top 10 videos on a recent nationwide voting tour that visited The Jinx in Savannah March 15, and now there are three videos remaining in the contest. Voting for the remaining three videos is available on the Internet, where the $20,000 grand-prize winner will be chosen June 12. To cast votes and enter for a chance to win a Scion, visit www.scionxpressfest.com. SCAD students and alumni who worked on the video in addition to Goubeaux include senior film and television student Peter Onsmark, who was the producer; Andrew Muto (B.F.A., film and television, 2003), who served as animation director; and M.F.A. film and television candidate Todd Eastman, who was the director of photography. Despite the tough competition, Goubeaux has confidence in the “Trains” video. “I think our video has a good chance of winning, because I was lucky enough to marry my concept with the talents of a strong team,” he said. Goubeaux credited Onsmark with securing the video shoot location and required tools, and complimented Muto’s use of an experimental animation technique. “He created thousands of frames of digitally hand-drawn animation that really brought the story to life,” Goubeaux said. He praised Eastman and the camera and art support teams for their assistance in creating the video’s mood as well as rounding out the visual aspects. Green is a publications editor. |
