Apply for SCAD scholarships onlineBy: Jennifer Long Published: Friday, March 10, 2006 This year, for the first time, currently enrolled Savannah College of Art and Design students must apply for institutional advancement scholarships online. The application process will take place April 3-30. Applications will be available beginning April 3 on the scholarship page, located in the Student Resources section of MySCAD. Applicants need to complete an online application, create a résumé (approved by the career services office) through the Job Magnet at www.scad.edu/jobmagnet, and be prepared to submit a portfolio. All scholarship finalists will be required to submit portfolios. Finalists will be notified and portfolios must be submitted on or about May 5. Scholarship decisions will be made during May. The winners will be announced before graduation. Frequently asked questions Will I need faculty letters of support or recommendation? No, letters of recommendation are not required. However, applicants need to provide a faculty name, telephone number and e-mail address as a reference on the online application. Will I need to submit a copy of my transcript? No, a copy of a student’s transcript is not required with the application. Where do I turn in my application? Applications may be submitted online only. Can I have my portfolio scholarship reevaluated for more money? Portfolio scholarships are awarded by the admission office. While entering portfolios are not reevaluated after enrollment, the scholarship is available until degree completion, provided all other criteria are maintained. Institutional advancement scholarships are available in addition to admission-awarded scholarships. How many scholarships can I apply for? There is no limit to the number of scholarships for which a student may apply. However, a student is not awarded more than one institutional advancement scholarship per year. Where do I apply for travel scholarships? Travel scholarships in varying amounts are awarded to qualified students who have been accepted to a SCAD off-campus program. Eligible students may apply at the office of off-campus programs in Jen Library, 201 E. Broughton St. For more information, call Blaine Hansen at (912) 525-4770. How many credit hours do I need to have by spring quarter to be eligible for scholarships? The amount of credit hours needed varies by scholarship. Consult the individual scholarship descriptions for number of credit hours required. Are students who are enrolled part-time this spring but will be enrolled full-time in the fall eligible for scholarships with a full-time requirement? No. Students should instead apply for scholarships that do not have a full-time requirement. How do I show that I have financial need? The documentation on record in the financial aid office will be a factor in determining financial need. The application includes a 350-word essay that applicants are required to complete, and financial aid information can be included in the essay. Are these the only opportunities for SCAD students who are already enrolled in classes to receive scholarships? Students should monitor www.scad.edu/callsforentry throughout the year to stay updated on a variety of opportunities. The Chronicle and District often provide the first notice of such opportunities, including scholarships, competitions and exhibitions. Long is a publications editor. |
