Minor prepares students for the business of art
By Monique Bos Published: Friday, April 14, 2006 At the Savannah College of Art and Design a minor in business management and entrepreneurship can complement any major program. Offered through the School of Liberal Arts at SCAD, business management and entrepreneurship courses are taught at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Undergraduate courses include finance, marketing, management and legal issues such as contracts and commission, consignment and loan agreements. Advanced courses on business practices are specifically geared to students in the building arts, communication arts or design. Graduate courses concentrate on more technical issues, such as financial statements, economic trends and accounting. Marketing practices and strategies also are emphasized. Both the undergraduate and graduate courses in business management and entrepreneurship are geared toward providing students with a comprehensive overview of how to plan, start, operate and market a business successfully. The courses are especially valuable for students interested in starting their own businesses or independently marketing their work. Rachel Shane is teaching business management and entrepreneurship during spring quarter. Shane holds degrees from the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, Northern Arizona University and Drexel University, and is completing her Ph.D. from The Ohio State University. In addition, she has professional experience in arts and theater administration, including a stint as associate director of education for the Delaware Theatre Co. |
