SCAD donates computers to Hancock Day School

Savannah College of Art and Design staff members carry in computers to Hancock Day School, 5526 Skidaway Road, May 11. The college donated a total of 19 computers.

The computers, workstations known as Intergraphs that SCAD used for computer art, will be added to the computer lab at HDS. (Inset) Currently, the pre-K-5 nonprofit school does not have enough computers to allow an entire class on at one time. SCAD’s donation will enable the school to complete its lab and assist its students in their educational pursuits.

Rowers trade water for earth in service project

Megan Tobin and Katie Fealtman of the Savannah College of Art and Design women’s rowing team prepare a magnolia tree for planting at the entrance of the new Sally Pearce Nature Trail on Tybee Island April 23. The men’s and women’s rowing teams logged a total of 215 service hours for two days of work: April 2 and April 23. They planted a variety of trees to restore 200 feet of trail with indigenous species and erected a boundary rail on the nature trail.

“The preservation and expansion of this small and rare tract of maritime forest on Tybee Island will be an asset to residents and visitors alike,” said assistant rowing coach and painting professor Steve Knudsen. The team will be recognized for their efforts at the Tybee City Council meeting in May.

Team serves up community clinic

The Savannah College of Art and Design women’s volleyball team works with the Savannah-area Special Olympics volleyball team in a clinic April 26 at the Delaware Center.

“Both the Special Olympics team and the SCAD volleyball team had such a great time playing together,” said women’s volleyball coach Glenn Cox. “We only had a little over an hour, but you know everyone was having a blast when an hour goes by and you haven’t even had to keep score to make it interesting.”
