Church announces May topics
At the Unitarian Universalist Church of Savannah, 317 E. Harris St., on May 15, Joan Kahn-Schneider leads a “UU Revival.” On May 22, Jim Miller speaks on “The Wheel of Life.” Cleveland Beach will speak on “The Four Foundations of Spirituality” May 29. Services are at 11 a.m., and all visitors are welcome. Childcare is provided.

O’Connor home hosts readings
The Flannery O’Connor Childhood Home, 207 E. Charlton St., hosts its 2005 Spring Reading series. All events are free and open to the public. May 15, 3 p.m., Rigel Crockett reads from and speaks about his recently published book, “Fair Wind and Plenty of It,” which chronicles the two years he spent sailing around the world. May 29, 3 p.m., Tom Kohler and Susan Earl talk about their newly published book, “Waddie Welcome and the Beloved Community.”

Bean hosts free events
The Sentient Bean, 13 E. Park Ave., hosts A.W.O.L., May 15, 8 p.m. All are welcome to this event, which targets poets, hip-hop artists and performers. An Old Time Music Jam Highlight is slated May 16, 7 p.m. “Breaking the Record: The Pacific Crest Trail” features hiker Ray Greenlaw, who set out to break the speed record for the 2,650-mile Pacific Crest Trail. SPACE offers play, holds auditions
The City of Savannah Cultural Arts Theatre presents “The Twits,” a story by Roald Dahl, 7 p.m. May 13, 14, 20 and 21, and 3 p.m. May 15 and 22. The performance includes puppets and audience participation. The play is offered at the Black Box at SPACE, 9 W. Henry St. For tickets or more information, call (912) 651-6783. In addition, auditions are being held for “Grease: The School Version,” directed by DJ Queenan, May 23-24, with callbacks May 26, 6 p.m. Actors, singers and dancers aged 12 and over should bring a piece of prepared music. Performances are scheduled in July.

Senior citizens need fans
The Corporate Volunteer Council of the United Way is sponsoring a fan drive for local senior citizens. The average high temperature in Savannah during July is 92 degrees. If you would like to donate a new fan for local seniors who are not able to afford air conditioning, contact Bob Frigo at bfrigo@scad.edu or (912) 525-7187. Donations will be accepted until June 1.

Daddy’s Day Care enlists fathers
Daddy’s Day Care is slated to take place at Grayson Stadium, 1401 E. Victory Drive, July 23, 9 a.m. - 7 p.m. The event, hosted by women’s group Splendour and the Savannah Sand Gnats, will include athletic events, a grilling contest, a watermelon-eating contest and more. Children must be attended by a male or female aged 18 or over. There is a $10 admission fee, with no charge for children 12 and under. Proceeds go to local charities.

Clown holds free classes
Local clown Mister Funnybonz is offering free clown classes every Sunday, 4 p.m., through the end of the summer at the Forsyth Park fountain. Participants should wear old clothes for physical comedy gags and prepare to take notes. For more information, call (912) 233-7858.
