Actors, directors, writers needed for 24-hour play festival Ghlei, the SCAD student theater organization, announces the fourth evening of 24-hour plays, to be held April 10 beginning at 8 p.m. in the Mondanaro Theater, Crites Hall, 217 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. In the course of 24 hours, four new plays will be written, produced, designed, acted and directed. The production is free and open to the public. The group is looking for theater practitioners in all fields to create this event. Participants must be available during the following times: Writers: April 9, 10 p.m. - April 10, 7 a.m. Directors and stage managers: April 10, 7 a.m. - 10 p.m. Actors: April 10, 9 a.m. - 10 p.m. To sign up for a slot, e-mail ghlei@scad.edu with your desired position(s) in the subject line (i.e.: ACTOR). Spring intramurals set to begin There will be a meeting for captains, free agents and officials March 30, 9:30 p.m., in Alexander Hall. All faculty, staff and students are eligible to play. Tennis matches (men’s, women’s and mixed doubles) will be on Friday afternoons. Soccer (coed, six-on-six) will be on Saturdays. Softball is also coed and will be on Sunday afternoons. Players may sign up individually and be placed on a team, or they may form teams of their own. There are also officiating positions available for experienced participants. Roster forms may be obtained at the meeting, downloaded from the SCAD athletics Web site at www.scadathletics.com/intramurals/forms.html, or picked up at Club SCAD, 7 E. Graduating students meeting planned Students who will complete all graduation requirements between Fall 2004 and Summer 2005 may be eligible to participate in the May 28, 2005, commencement ceremony. Students should attend the last graduating students meeting for 2004-05 April 8 in Orleans Hall. The meeting for undergraduate students will be at 1 p.m.; graduate students will meet at 2 p.m. This meeting is for all those who will be graduating, even those who will not be participating in the graduation ceremony. Game developers share insight On May 6, SCAD and Thomson Course Technology present Game Developers eXchange for the first time. GDX 2005 brings game-industry veterans and experts to SCAD-Atlanta for an all-day event to share their behind-the-scenes knowledge of the game industry. At sessions for attendees, professionals will reveal what goes into developing video games, including game design, art and programming. The conference is free, but space is limited. Registration will be held March 23. GDX 2005 will be held at the college’s Atlanta facility, 1600 Peachtree St. N.E., 9 a.m. - 5:15 p.m. Transportation will be provided for SCAD faculty, staff and students. Faculty/Staff Day at the Ballpark scheduled for March 26 The annual Faculty/Staff Day at the Ballpark will be held March 26 at Grayson Stadium on Victory Drive. The Bees’ doubleheader against Florida Memorial College begins at 1 p.m. The first 25 faculty/staff members in the gate get a free hot dog. League offers spare time fun The SCAD bowling league starts March 29. Enjoy 10 weeks of fun-filled competition for only $10 per week (not including shoe rental). Attend fire safety training Don’t let your dreams go up in smoke. Stop by the Oglethorpe House ballroom, 201 W. Oglethorpe Ave., March 30, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., to practice fire safety. Representatives of the SCAD physical resources department, Koorsen Fire Service and Ansul Inc. will conduct simulated fire training using state-of-the-art computer technology. Bring a rechargeable fire extinguisher from home for inspection, and recharge it for $12. Fire extinguishers will be available for purchase for $28. Financial plan counseling available March 31 TIAA-CREF consultant Jim Hogan will conduct individual counseling sessions at SCAD March 31 at Clinard Hall, 618 Drayton St. He will offer advice on setting up a long-term financial plan, which involves evaluating potential income sources and then factoring in the impact of taxes, inflation and the larger economic picture. Literary evening to be held April 7 A celebratory reception and student readings of original poetry and prose as well as that of established authors will take place April 7, 7 p.m., in the Oglethorpe House ballroom. In the spirit of “The Illustrated Mark Twain” literary exhibition at the Earle W. Newton Center for British-American Studies, this year’s theme focuses on the American South. Sequential art department hosts Editors’ Day The sequential art department will host Editors’ Day April 28-29. This year’s event features class visits and portfolio reviews by Bob Schreck, Batman group editor for DC Comics; Axel Alonso, group editor for Marvel Comics; Chris Staros, editor-in-chief and publisher of Top Shelf Comics; Jeremy Ross, Tokyopop editor; Matt Milberger, White Wolf editor and SCAD alumnus; and Jeff Mason, editor and publisher of Alternative Comics. On April 28, there will be a panel discussion in the Oglethorpe House ballroom, 9-10:30 p.m. On April 29, portfolio reviews will take place 10 a.m. - noon and 2-4:30 p.m. in Norris Hall. Artist seeks volunteers to assist with installation Renowned British landscape artist Julia Barton, the 2004-05 artist-in-residence at SCAD, is seeking volunteers to help with making screens and planting as she transforms the courtyard of Habersham Hall into the installation titled “Resurrection.” The installation will incorporate native South Georgia plants and industrial materials to showcase the building’s history and will open April 29. Student television group launches Web site Beecon, the new Web-based student television service at the Savannah College of Art and Design, is proud to announce the launch of its Web site, http://scadbeecon.com. The site offers a variety of outstanding films by students in film and television and in animation. In the coming months, Beecon will continue to seek out and showcase exceptional student work. Additionally, Beecon will debut original productions and news programming.
