Baseball players shine in Florida Sun Conference all-star game

Three SCAD baseball players shone in the annual Florida Sun Conference All-star Game Jan. 22 on the campus of Webber International University.

The North team, which comprised players from Webber International, SCAD, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and Flagler College, shut out the South team 5-0. The all-star game featured the top junior and senior players from the Florida Sun. Coaches nominated players from their teams to participate. The game provided an opportunity for draft-eligible players to be seen by professional baseball scouts.

SCAD junior shortstop James O’Connell and junior second baseman Adam Freeman each collected a hit on a day when hits were hard to come by, as the two teams combined for 10 hits. O’Connell went 1-for-2 with a walk, double and run, while Freeman went 1-for-3 with a run scored. Senior outfielder Sean Smith, who was won of two players to see action the entire game, was hitless in four at bats but drove in a run. The three SCAD players accounted for three of the five runs scored by the North.
