Hsu-Jen Huang, chair of the Savannah College of Art and Design architecture department, recently received the Service to the Profession Award from the American Institute of Architects’ Georgia component for hosting the South Atlantic Regional Conference’s Legacy Charrette in October 2003. The charrette, a problem-solving competition in which participants formulate viable solutions to a challenge, created a special design opportunity for architecture students from Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina. Earlier this month, architecture students Julie Granacher, Elizabeth Vega and Gabriel Gallaher were recognized at a reception at the Buckhead Club in Atlanta. The students, sponsored by Pekka Ignatius of Andritz Inc., president of the Finnish-American Chamber of Commerce, worked on an exhibit for the Finnish Independence Day celebration. Alumnus Shane Marshall Brown (B.F.A., media and performing arts, 2002) appears in the film “Room,” written and directed by Kyle Henry. “Room” was recently selected for the “Frontier” competition at The Sundance Film Festival Jan. 20-30, 2005.
