  That’s a wrap

This holiday season, ensure that gifts stand out with homemade wrapping paper created with homemade stencils.

You will need:
At least one roll of brown or white paper
1 piece of thick paper such as card stock or a transparency
1 Exacto knife with extra blades
Spray paint
An image or design
1 pencil (optional)
1 printer (optional)

If you are using card stock to create your stencil, you will either have to draw your design directly onto the paper, brandish it on or (if your printer will accommodate thick paper) print it out. If you are using a transparency, you can choose between tracing or printing. Once the chosen image has been transferred to the card stock or transparency, use the Exacto to carefully cut away the unwanted paper. (You will have to do some visualizing here to make sure you don’t cut away too much of the design, leaving it unrecognizable.) Once the stencil is ready, spread a large sheet of paper on the ground (preferably outside as spray paint tends to be noisome). You may want to put weights on either end of the paper to keep it flat if it’s been rolled. Place the stencil on the paper and spray. Repeat as desired. Keep in mind that larger images won’t be as recognizable if you’re wrapping smaller-sized gifts. Small stencils can also be used to make holiday cards.
