Sign up for summer vehicle storage The transportation and parking services department has secured alternative storage for students who need assistance with vehicle storage during the summer break. Vehicle storage will be available on a first-come, first-served basis, but a minimum participation of 150 cars is needed to secure the space. If you would like to take advantage of summer vehicle storage, pick up a Vehicle Storage Form from transportation and parking services. Return the form to transportation and parking services before May 12. The parking storage is $50 per month, and you need to pay in advance for the time your vehicle is to be stored. The storage area is in Statesboro in a secured warehouse, and a SCAD shuttle bus is available for transportation from the warehouse May 21, 24, 28 and 31. The bus arrives at 2 p.m. and leaves the warehouse for Savannah at 4 p.m., with no exceptions. To retrieve your vehicle at the end of summer break, you can take the bus leaving Savannah Sept. 3, 6, 10 and 13 from Weston House at 2 p.m. The bus only runs on these Fridays and Mondays. No exceptions will be made. Please sign up immediately if you would like to take advantage of this service. For more information, call 525.RIDE. Parking lot on Drayton Street closed The department of parking and transportation services requests that faculty, students and staff who park at 342 Drayton St. (the corner of Drayton and Charlton streets) find alternate parking locations. As of April 30, the lot will be permanently closed to parking. Vehicles parked on the lot after April 30 will be towed at the owner’s expense. College representatives are seeking alternate parking in the vicinity of Madison Square and will provide information as soon as it is available. For more information, call parking and transportation services at 525-RIDE. Faculty needed to teach summer workshops From July 23 to Aug. 27, students from around the world will be attending the English as a second language department’s five-week Summer Intensive Program. This program is designed for students who are looking for an intensive immersion experience in English. Most are interested in attending Savannah College of Art and Design and a few have already been accepted, so this is an opportunity to acquaint them with the various classes offered and professors who teach them. Since it is often their first encounter with American culture, students also learn about American social and academic expectations. In addition to attending classes to help develop proficiency in basic language skills, students tour museums and galleries, plan and prepare a meal, work collaboratively on projects, view films, go to the breach, and attend workshops offered by faculty in the art and design departments. Such workshops give students an opportunity to explore various fields and familiarize themselves with the college and its resources. Faculty from several departments contributed to the program’s success last summer by offering two or three-hour workshops, which gave the students a chance to try their hand at, for example, glass etching and self-portrait drawing. The program is looking for studio instructors with a few hours to spare and some good ideas to involve our students in a hands-on project.
