  SCAD offers online learning programs

By Rita Gagliano

Did you know that you can earn a Master of Arts degree or a certificate from Savannah College of Art and Design online? Did you know that high school students may begin their studies at SCAD while still at home? Did you know that SCAD students may register for online courses?

The college is pleased to announce the addition of online studies to its curriculum. In the fall of 2003, the college offered students the opportunity to earn a Master of Arts degree in historic preservation or a Master of Arts in graphic design completely online. Students also have the opportunity to earn a certificate in digital publishing; a graduate certificate in digital publishing management; a graduate certificate in interactive design; or a graduate certificate in historic preservation. Students may elect to complete studies in these areas completely online from anywhere in the world. On-campus students also may elect to utilize online studies when course offerings fulfill requirements or approved electives in their degree program. This allows for a degree of flexibility when class schedules conflict with outside activities.

In addition to the degree and certificate programs, several elective courses and other undergraduate courses will soon be available. The addition of liberal arts and foundation studies courses will provide high school students the advantage of beginning their college studies early. Plans include offering Survey of Western Arts I and II, Color Theory, 2-D Design, English Composition or Survey of Computer Art Applications online.

All online courses are taught by SCAD professors and are offered for academic credit under the authority of the college. Like on-campus courses, e-Learning programs follow the quarter system and run 10 weeks. Two additional Master of Arts degree programs are expected to be offered soon via the Internet.

For more information about e-Learning at SCAD and for e-Learning updates, visit the Web site at www.scad.edu/elearning, call the admission department at (800) 869-7223 or 525-5100, or e-mail e-learning@scad.edu.

Gagliano is director of the admission portfolio and scholarship center and oversees e-Learning recruitment and enrollment.
