The Chatham/Effingham Tobacco Use Prevention Program unveiled the new Smoke-free Restaurant Guide and placemats Feb. 20 at the Savannah DeSoto Hilton. The guide was designed by SCAD graduate student Amanda Dieter and the placemats were designed by illustration major Kate Parisian.

Junior architecture major Krystal A. Meiners earned first-place honors at the Humanscale and Metropolis magazine student design competition. Meiners’ winning entry will be announced to the press and design community at an event hosted by Humanscale in April in New York, N.Y. Humanscale is a leading manufacturer of ergonomic products for the office.

The object of the competition was to “design your ideal workspace.” Meiners’ design was a work station that evokes the separations between public and private areas through color and fabric, considering aspects such as light diffusion through different materials and the human need for social interaction, personal reflection and relaxation.

As the first-place winner, Meiners will receive an internship with Niels Diffrient, a furniture designer with Humanscale. The winning entry will be published in Metropolis magazine and ID magazine and may be viewed at www.humanscale.com and www.metropolismag.com.
