Students raise money to help each
other By Linda Tierney Silver sparks will ignite the dance floor at Orleans Hall as SCAD students strut their stuff for the first Dance-A-Thon student fund-raiser for the Silver Scholarship. The United Student Forum and the alumni services department created the Silver Scholarship as a way for students to help support each other financially and learn more about being philanthropic. The dance-a-thon provides a fun way to achieve both goals and wrap up a day devoted to fund-raising for the Silver Scholarship. “As this is the silver anniversary of the college, how fitting it is to have a day dedicated to the Silver Scholarship,” said Barry Buxton, Ph.D., vice president for institutional advancement. The United Student Forum will be taking the lead with all of the student organizations in the college to spread the word and get as much participation as possible. “We are excited to join forces campus-wide to raise enough funds to endow the scholarship this year,” said Franyel Zelaya, student alumni representative and USF member. The Dance-A-Thon will be held at Orleans Hall April 22, 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. To learn more about the Silver Scholarship, call the alumni office at 525-5850 or email alumni@scad.edu. Tierney is director of alumni services. |
