Student exchange program accepting applications
The French Heritage Society, formerly Friends of Vieilles Maisons Francaise, Inc., offers student exchange programs that have enriched the cross-cultural experiences of both French and American students by permitting them to work on sites of historic interest in each other’s countries. The programs mix the practical with the personal by giving students in both cultures the opportunity to live with and interact with their host families.

Participants spend three weeks with a French family in a land-marked house, chateau or house with a sculpture garden during the summer months.

Internship opportunities include acting as an English speaking guide for chateau tours, working in a chateau library, restoration work (paintings, sculpture), horticulture and botanical work (garden maintenance) and architectural and/or botanical research

In exchange, the host family provides room and board and allows the participant to share in family life and shows interesting sites in the area.

The program is open to students 20 to 26 years of age in any academic field. The ability to speak and read French is beneficial, and may be required depending on the project.

There is a nonrefundable $15 fee to join FHS in order to participate in this program.

To apply, provide a résumé, photo, motivation letter, a letter of recommendation from a professor, and be available to be interviewed by phone. Please indicate the preferred period of summer (July/August). Usually, a three-week internship is ideal. Proof of health insurance is required. Transportation and all other expenses are paid by the student. The application deadline is April 30.

Applications should be addressed to:

Diane de Roquette-Buisson
34, Avenue de New York
75116 Paris, France

For more information, visit: www.frenchheritagesociety.org, e-mail paris@frenchheritagesociety.org or e-mail professor Jonna Wensel at jwensel@scad.edu.
