Historic preservation professor Marlborough Packard hosted representatives of The Citizen Diplomacy Program, International House, sponsored by the United States Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs Community Connection Program Jan. 23 at the Earle W. Newton Center for British-American Studies. The Russian delegates were in Savannah to see the Russian historical and cultural preservation work in the United States and to spend time learning about the Savannah College of Art and Design and the historic preservation program. The 10 delegates have backgrounds in preservation and/or museum fields. They were accompanied by a translator and a staff member from the Citizen Diplomacy program. Packard gave a lecture for the delegates and joined them on their tour of the college. This is the second time that Packard has been involved with bringing the Russian delegates to the college. This visit provided exposure for the college to a country with vast cultural, artistic and historic resources. The potential exists for some of SCADs professors or graduates to visit Russia for similar visits. |
