Buy Thanksgiving dinner from SCAD SCAD dining services is offering to prepare a complete Thanksgiving dinner for SCAD faculty, staff and students who dont want to cook it themselves. The dinner includes a roasted or deep-fried turkey, country-style whipped potatoes and turkey gravy, candied sweet potatoes, green bean almondine and buttered corn, cornbread dressing, cranberry sauce, fresh baked dinner rolls and pumpkin and apple pie. The dinners come in three different sizes and prices: 8-12 guests, $49.95; 12-16 guests, $79.95; and 16-20 guests, $99.95. The Hive is buzzing All faculty and staff are invited to visit The Hive, a new online community created and managed by students. Join this community to be directly on the pulse of what students are talking about and to answer questions related to your departments services. To register as a user via your employee information or faculty resources account, visit http://www.scad.edu/employee, and click on "Personal Information" and then on "Register for an Account on The Hive" (https://bannerweb.scad.edu/banner/plsql/hwgkhive.P_HiveRegistration). You will need to input your Banner ID number and pin. Proceed to http://www.scad.edu/thehive and click on "Student Forums" to read and participate in message board discussions. Flu shots to be offered Nov. 22 Memorial Health will offer flu shots to students, faculty, staff and their dependents for $15 per person on Nov. 22, 8:30 a.m. to noon and 1-4:30 p.m. Memorial Healths Mobile One Unit will be parked in the lot outside the entrance of Weston House, 231 W. The section also features information about lectures, classes (including yoga), CPR training, support groups and information sessions about topics that include childbirth, heart disease and diabetes offered by Memorial Health. New refund check policy in place Beginning January 2003, student refund checks will be mailed to local addresses. Only students who reside in SCAD residence halls will continue to claim their refund checks in Propes Hall, 15 Drayton St. Students may also choose to have refund checks deposited directly into their bank accounts. Authorization forms for direct deposit are available at the Propes Hall customer service counter, Turner House Express Office, 302 W. Boundary St. and at http:mycampus.scad.edu under student forms. Change of address forms are also available at these locations. Students are asked to be sure to keep their local addresses current with the bursars office or authorize the refund for direct deposit. Donate your old computer to SPD The Savannah Police Department is looking for old, working computers to use for the Savannah Community Alert Network crime prevention program. All-USA Academic Team seeking nominations Nominations for USA Todays 2003 All-USA Academic Team must be postmarked by Nov. 30. Any full-time undergraduate of at least sophomore standing is eligible. Sixty students nationwide will be named to the first, second and third teams and will be featured in a two-page color spread in February. First team winners will receive a $2,500 cash award. Department chairs and professors should determine potential candidates and distribute an application to each student. New scholarship available The office of institutional advancement is pleased to announce the establishment of a new scholarship for matriculated students. Applications, which are due Dec. 1 are now available for the Notrica Family Memorial Endowed Scholarship. This scholarship provides a $1,500 award to the recipient. The recipient must be an undergraduate or graduate student with demonstrated financial need and a record of community involvement. In addition, applicants must have earned a minimum of 45 credit hours at SCAD, with a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0. Two letters of recommendation from current professors and current transcripts are required. Applications may be picked up at the office of institutional advancement. Work needed for upcoming exhibition The galleries department invites all SCAD students, faculty, staff and alumni to participate in the upcoming "Big Picture Show." This years exhibition runs Jan. 8 - Feb. 10 in the Alexander Hall Gallery and will be featured in the January Gallery Hop. The deadline for submissions is Dec. 10. Work also is being accepted for the "Red on Red" exhibition which opens Feb. 6 in Red Gallery. The exhibition features and pays tribute to the dynamism of the color red in contemporary art. Institutional advancement hosts grant workshop The office of institutional advancement will be hosting a grant development workshop Dec. 13, 10 a.m. to noon, at the Jen Library, Room 108. Space is limited to 20 participants. Additional workshops will be scheduled based on demand. All faculty and staff who are interested in learning about applying for grants are invited. Librarys Mac lab fully stocked The Jen Library has a Mac lab in room 310 that includes 22 computers and a scanner. Software on the computers includes Adobe Photoshop 7, Adobe Illustrator 10.0.3, Adobe InDesign 2.0 and Adobe LiveMotion2. In addition, Microsoft Office 2001 is on all the computers. Scholarship opportunity pays nearly everything for the recipient Savannah College of Art and Design students are invited to apply for the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Undergraduate Scholarship Program. The award will provide funding for tuition, room and board, required fees and books for the remainder of the scholars undergraduate program. The foundation will award scholarships to students in spring 2003 for use during the 2003-2004 academic year. Students must be a junior during the fall 2003 term, have a G.P.A. of 3.0 or higher and must be nominated by the college.
