Close games make flag football exciting

By Jennifer Levo

It was another exciting afternoon for flag football in Forsyth Park Oct. 19 with many close games. Some teams who had been razing their opponents in the first twenty minutes in previous games saw more resistance and difficulty.

The first game was one of two very close contests. Josh Rotsheck’s B-Town East had a challenging battle with Jeremiah Schwarz’s Al-Kies. When it comes to league points and standings, B-Town had two more points than the Al-Kies (3-1), but they evened the points and leveled the field by defeating B-Town 12-6.

The second game was an uncomplicated win for Shane Baesemann’s Forsyth Bastards who waltzed over Nathan Otlewski’s Red Bull in the highest scoring game of the day, 38-6.

The score might not reflect it, but the third game of the afternoon was a surprising one for Jamald Gardner’s undefeated Dynasty, who faced much resistance from Team Keon, led by Keon Wade. Team Keon played a solid defensive game holding the Dynasty to only one goal at the end of the first half. But the halftime talk must have been a good one because the Dynasty forged ahead, scoring four more touchdowns and bringing the final to 32-0.

The last game of the afternoon was also another heated struggle between Ahmad Jackson’s undefeated Headbusters and Luke Zei’s Shockers. Both teams had great plays that involved complex passes, handoffs and runs. However, in this struggle, it was the Headbusters who out-scored the Shockers and won the game 12-6.

More flag football matches will be held Oct. 26, noon to 5 p.m., in Forsyth Park.
