| Faculty/staff campaign enters final week By Suzanne Savage The Savannah College of Art and Design 2003-2004 Faculty/Staff Campaign has entered its final week as it ends Oct. 31. This annual fund raising drive is part of the SCAD Annual Fund, and seeks financial support from the faculty and staff for academic departments, scholarships and programs at the college. In honor of the colleges 25th anniversary, this years campaign theme is The Journey of 25 Years Continues with Your Gift. We hope members of the college community will join us in celebrating the 25th anniversary by giving to the campaign, said Ron Rayman, dean of library services and chairman of the faculty/staff campaign. There are many ways to support the college in honor of the anniversary. Give $25 for the 25th A gift of $25 to the annual fund, one dollar for each year the college has operated, will provide much-needed support for student scholarships. Approximately one in every two students at SCAD exhibits financial need. Your support will directly increase the amount of scholarship funds available to SCAD students! 25th Anniversary Scholarship Designate a gift to a new scholarship for matriculated students in honor of the colleges 25th anniversary. Once endowed, this scholarship will be an annual celebration of the occasion. Commemorative Pavers Make a contribution of $125 and receive a personalized message engraved on a 12-by-12-inch paver located at the Gulfstream Center for Furniture and Industrial Design. Since the campaign began, volunteer captains have been following up with their colleagues regarding their support for the campaign. At this time, two buildings have reached 100 percent participation thanks to the efforts of their building captains: Clinard Hall (building captain Susie Clinard) and Norris Hall (building captain John Lowe). Competition among buildings has resulted in some innovative strategies from building captains. Trey Reckling, building captain for Propes Hall, has appealed to the business office and finance staff to start their own scholarship. Many of the staff located at Propes Hall know first-hand the financial challenges that our students face while pursuing their education, he said. We felt strongly about establishing a Business Office Endowed Scholarship to provide annual assistance to a deserving student. Eichberg Hall building captain Tray Crow is using an unusual strategy to motivate the faculty and staff in his building. If 100 percent of the faculty and staff in Eichberg Hall make gifts to the campaign by Oct. 24, Crow and Crystal Weaver, dean of the School of Building Arts, will shave their heads. Architecture department chair Hsu-Jen Huang and faculty/staff campaign chairman Ron Rayman have agreed to shave their heads as well in a display of moral support. For more information about giving to the campaign, please contact the volunteer building captains or the office of institutional advancement at 525-5867. All donors to the 2003-2004 Faculty/Staff Campaign will be eligible to attend the 2004 Scholarship Gala at a discount price of $75 per person. Those who donate to the campaign by Oct. 31 also will be included in the grand-prize drawing for a two-night stay in a deluxe ocean-view room at the King and Prince Beach and Golf Resort or two complimentary tickets in Keech Tower for the 2004 Daytona 500. Savage is director of major gifts. |
