Working Class Studio internship available Working Class Studio is seeking interns for winter and spring quarters. Energetic and ambitious students are needed to intern within this multidisciplinary environment, which explores new and experimental techniques in textiles, surface design, installation and product development. College security updates publications The college security department has recently reprinted all of its published material, which now contains the departments new name as well as revised information for 2003-04. Departments that stock these publications are asked to contact Gene Friedman, director of college security, at 525-4500 or gfriedma@scad.edu, to obtain job numbers for the new publications so that they may be ordered from campus printing. Please discontinue using the prior editions that are out of date and have incorrect information. Artistic employment Web site launched Students seeking employment can search www.artsopportunities.org, an arts community classifieds launched in April by the Southern Arts Federation in partnership with the Carnegie Mellon Center for Arts Management and Technology. The site offers free access to arts organizations and individual artists alike. Opportunities are grouped according to location, time commitment, pay preference and artistic discipline. Follicles for Funds challenge issued In the competitive spirit of the 2003-2004 Faculty/Staff Campaign, Eichberg Hall has been issued a challenge: Follicles for Funds. If 100 percent of the buildings faculty and staff make gifts to the faculty/staff campaign by Oct. 24, the building captain, Tray Crow, and the dean of the School of Building Arts, Crystal Weaver, will shave their heads. Architecture department chair Hse-Jen Huang and faculty/staff campaign chair Ron Rayman have agreed to shave their heads as well in a display of moral support. In addition, each Friday at 5:30 p.m., all donors to the 2003-2004 Faculty/Staff Campaign are included in a weekly drawing. The last two winners have been Vice President for Admission and Communications Pamela Poetter, who won a complimentary massage from Club SCAD, and architecture professor Timothy Woods, who will receive two complimentary passes to the Savannah Film Festival. New benefits card mailed Employees who participated in the health insurance open enrollment should have received a new medical/pharmacy card by this time. The card is all-inclusive and covers medical, dental (if elected) and pharmacy. Please review the card carefully to make sure the information is correct. Check name, dependents name/names, social security number and network (Georgia Healthcare Partnership or PMCO). Please destroy the previous health insurance card. Flu shots offered Memorial Health UrgentOne, 14089 Abercorn St., is offering flu shots. Hours of operation are Monday-Sunday, 9 a.m. - 9 p.m. The cost is $15 cost for SCAD employees, dependents of an employee or students. For more information, call UrgentOne at 350-2121. SCAD signs up new SCAD Card merchants The College SCAD Card center announces the addition of Parkers Market Urban Gourmet, 622 Drayton St., to the SCAD Card program. The card center also welcomes Smiths Full Service Texaco Station, 236 Drayton St., which offers complete car services, including collision repair, automotive painting, and auto-detailing. In addition, Logans Full Service Amoco, 1210 Drayton St., has closed. Residency program accepting applicants The Savannah College of Art and Design offers a studio residency program during the winter quarter at the colleges campus in Provence, France. This residency at SCAD-Lacoste is designed for those prepared to work independently in a focused, multidisciplinary setting, including graduate students, upper level undergraduate students, SCAD and SCAD-Lacoste alumni. The program provides a forum for self-reflection and critical analysis in the company of peers and resident faculty. Students from all majors are encouraged to participate. Training sessions planned Technology training sessions are now forming for fall quarter. Submit print jobs more easily Faculty and staff can now submit print jobs to campus printing from your desktop computer. The Docutech services are Web-based and make job submission easier than ever. For more information, please e-mail training@scad.edu. Off-campus programs planned Off-campus programs will be offered during the winter break to Los Angeles and Washington, D.C. The Los Angles program, Nov. 29 - Dec. 6, will offer a professionally focused digital media seminar. Interest meetings for the Los Angeles program will be held Oct. 22 at 6 p.m. and Oct. 24 at 2 p.m. in Montgomery Hall. The Washington, D.C. program will be offered Nov. 29 - Dec. 12 and will offer an art history class and a graphic design course. Interest meetings for the Washington, D.C. program will be held Oct. 21 at 5:30 p.m. in Poetter Hall and Oct. 27 at 8:30 p.m. in Pepe Hall. New employee recognition program begins As part of the celebration of the colleges 25th anniversary, SCAD has started a new employee recognition program for all employees who have achieved five, 10, 15, 20, 25 years of service with the college. These employees will be presented with a pin for that particular year and a bonus deposited on their SCAD ID card. With the implementation of this new program, the college has discontinued the birthday cards from the presidents office with the $25 gift certificate. For more information, please contact human resources at 525-5532. Jazz up this exhibition Red Gallery is seeking work for an exhibition titled Jazz to be held Jan. 30 - March 1, 2004. The exhibition will feature work that illustrates jazz and its influence on artists. The entry deadline is Nov. 15. For a list of submission guidelines, call 525-4950. SCAD anniversary exhibition seeks entries The Savannah College of Art and Design invites students, alumni, faculty and staff members to submit work for Faces of SCAD, a juried exhibition celebrating the colleges 25th anniversary. All work must be executed on 10-by-10-inch canvases that are exclusively available for purchase from the exhibitions department. The canvases cost $10 and will be available at the following galleries: Red Gallery, Pinnacle Gallery, Exhibit A Gallery and Pei Ling Chan Gallery. The entry deadline is Dec. 1.
