Admission tour times have changed Daily admission tour times have been changed to 9:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., Monday through Saturday. College tours still depart from Poetter Hall, 342 Bull St., and are approximately one and a half hours in length. Please be aware of these new tour times when talking with new students or new staff. Presidential fellowship interest meeting to be held Oct. 3 Full-time faculty members interested in applying for a Presidential Fellowship for Faculty Development are invited to attend an informational meeting Oct. 3, 4 p.m., on the third floor of Ex Libris, 228 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. P.J. Johnson, chief of administrative services, and Karen Davies, director of academic research and faculty development, will review the application guidelines and answer questions. The application deadline for Spring 2004 awards, which covers the March 15 - June 1, 2004, funding period, is Nov. 20. The application deadline for Summer 2004 awards, which cover the June 1 - Aug. 31, 2004 funding period, is Feb. 15, 2004. The Presidential Fellowship for Faculty Development guidelines and application can be accessed in the employee section of MySCAD under the academic services section of forms. Student Media Center reschedules open house All faculty and staff members are invited to a student media center open house Oct. 17, 4:30-5:30 p.m., at Keys Hall, 516 Abercorn St. Participants may tour the new student media center, chat with student media staff and learn what student media has to offer the college community. Stop smoking now The department of health and wellness is again offering a free, four-week smoking cessation program to all students and faculty and staff members, designed to help participants learn techniques to stop smoking. The first one-hour session will be held Sept. 26, noon, on the fourth floor of American Hall, 7 Drayton St. Registration is required in advance. Wellness conference to be held Sept. 27 The Art of Wellness: Fall Quarter Wellness Conference and Blood Drive will be held Sept. 27, 9 a.m. - 5:30 p.m., at Orleans Square, Orleans Hall, 201 Barnard St., and Oglethorpe House ballroom, 201 W. Oglethorpe Ave. This free conference offers a wide variety of workshops focused on finding personal joy and meaning, adding balance to ones life and learning to nurture oneself. Call 525-6971 or e-mail wellness@scad.edu for additional details and to register. The blood drive will be held in Orleans Square and is open to the public. Each blood donor receives a free T-shirt and is entered into a raffle featuring $1,500 in prizes. Pedestrian group issues call for entries Pedestrian Advocates of the Coastal Empire, an organization dedicated to making the Savannah area a safe and healthy environment for pedestrians, is sponsoring a logo design contest. The PACE logo will be used on the organizations Web site and on printed materials. The designer of the winning logo will receive a $300 prize. The entry deadline is Sept. 30. National group offers scholarship opportunity The National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts is offering ARTS, a national program designed to identify, encourage, and reward young artists who demonstrate excellence in the disciplines of dance, film/video, jazz, music, photography, theater, visual arts, voice and writing. Awards given by ARTS range from $100 to $3,000. The deadline for application is Oct. 1. Detailed information and applications can be found at http://www.ARTSawards.org. Student leadership conference scheduled The office of student involvement will host LEAD, the annual student leadership conference Oct. 3, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m., in the Afifi Amphitheater, 324 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. and Crites Hall, 217 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. Student organization officers and student leaders on campus are required to attend this conference, but it is also open to all interested SCAD students. Students who have not been invited but would like to participate should contact the office of student involvement at 525-4400. Business writing seminar for staff The next business writing seminar for staff will be offered Oct. 8, 2-4 p.m., at the Jen Library Writing Center, 201 E. Broughton St. This seminar will help employees to understand easily and implement correctly the important techniques and principles of business English. Please note that this seminar is open to all staff, but class size is limited, so please register in advance. SCAD anniversary exhibition seeks entries The Savannah College of Art and Design invites students, alumni, faculty and staff members to submit work for Faces of SCAD, a juried exhibition celebrating the colleges 25th anniversary. All work must be executed on 10-by-10-inch canvases that are exclusively available for purchase from the exhibitions department. The canvases cost $10 and will be available at the following galleries: Red Gallery, Pinnacle Gallery, Exhibit A Gallery and Pei Ling Chan Gallery. The entry deadline is Dec. 1. Poster design competition underway Students, faculty, alumni and staff are invited to submit a poster design for the Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf senior PGA tour. There are no media restrictions other than that the final piece must be reproducible on a printing press (no 3-D work). A panel of PGA officials, tournament sponsors, SCAD and local officials will judge the entries. The winning entry/artist will be announced at a live press conference Nov. 17 and will receive a scholarship award of $500. The deadline is Oct. 24 and entries must be delivered to the entrants department chair. For more information, e-mail golfposter@scad.edu. Help Desk exterminates worms In an effort to protect the colleges network and students personal computers from Internet worms, the department of information management and technology now needs to approve all computers prior to connection to the campus network. Students will need to bring their computers to the Dyson House Internet lab for approval and activation. For more information, call the Help Desk at 525-4567. District needs students with a nose for news District, SCADs award-winning student newspaper, is currently seeking a qualified student to serve as news editor for the 2003-2004 academic term. The news editor is responsible for all District news content, including identifying and assigning stories. Preference will be given to candidates with strong writing backgrounds and previous newspaper experience. The news editor receives a monthly stipend.
