| Get connected the easy way By Trey Reckling SCAD announces a new partnership with StudentUConnect.com that takes the hassle out of hooking up utilities (electric, gas, telephone, cellular service, Internet service and cable) at a new residence. Students who plan to live off-campus beginning fall quarter (and faculty and staff who wish to set up service as well) now have a new resource available that makes utility hook-ups a much easier and less time-consuming task. Whats more, the service is offered for free. Using StudentUConnect.com, new residents are able to place their utility connection orders in minutes by completing just one online application form. This convenient service takes the place of many applications or telephone calls with utility service representatives. Of course, utility companies may require standard deposits to open or transfer an account, but this Web-based resource can save users time and aggravation. Once the connection order is placed, the selected utilities perform credit checks, process connection orders, and provide connection order status to students as orders are processed. In addition, students can e-mail utility service representatives about their orders at any time using StudentUConnect.coms proprietary e-mail utility (available upon having placed a connection order). If deposits are required, the respective utility will either call or e-mail the applicant with that information. Alex Tomas, creator of StudentUConnect.com and president of a utility consulting company in Atlanta, said, We are excited to be working with SCAD and serving their students, faculty and staff. I am personally driven and passionate about continually improving our customers experience. In the next year, we plan to collaborate with our valued utility partners in rolling out new services and utility deposit options for our student customers that are exclusive to StudentUConnect.com. We look forward to serving SCAD and wish everyone an exceptional year. How it works: Go to www.StudentUConnect.com. Go to the Get Connected tab and setup a user name, password and provide a move-in address. Select utilities and options using Student U Connects proprietary and efficient U Connect process. Fill out the online application and proceed to Check Out. Tomas reminds potential users that connection orders should be placed as far in advance as possible. For utility lead times, see the Utilities tab at the top of the site and enter the new residence zip code. Any questions about this service may be addressed to StudentUConnect at StudentSupport@StudentUConnect.com. At this time, the city of Savannah water utility is not participating. Users will still need to follow the normal protocol for connecting water service. Reckling is SCADs ombudsman. |
