(From right) Savannah College of Art and Design Chief of Administrative Services P.J. Johnson, President Paula Wallace, Assistant to the President Nicole Collins and students in foundation studies professor Yves Paquettes architectural ceramics class review preliminary sketches for a brick arch that will be built to commemorate SCADs 25th anniversary in October. The nine students in the class presented three designs to Wallace April 8 in Alexander Hall. Wallace, Paquette and the assembled group debated the relative merits of the renderings and discussed ways to refine them. Once a final design is chosen, Paquette and his class will begin carving the 3,000 yet-to-be-fired bricks in the studio. Public art presents a challenge and an opportunity that these students embrace, said Wallace. I feel certain that their contribution to the 25th anniversary celebration will speak to and for all the thousands of other students at SCAD." |
