By Angela Hendrix The Lucas Theatre of the Arts has hired Kenneth F. Carter as executive director for the theater. He will be responsible for the management of the theater including rentals, maintenance of the facility and equipment, event promotion and finances. The Savannah College of Art and Design will continue to provide expertise and resources to the Lucas and will also continue to host events in the theater such as the American College Theater Festival, Feb. 4-9, and the Savannah Film Festival, Oct. 25 - Nov. 1. "For the past six months we have been defining our relationship with the Lucas," said Danny Filson, executive director of the Trustees Theater. "We were asked by the Lucas board to step in to get the theater stabilized and solidified last year when the theater was in danger of closing. The college has never owned the building, so it makes sense for the Lucas Board of Governors to designate a director for day-to-day management of the theater." Carter has more than 20 years of experience in the entertainment industry as a screenwriter and producer, including "The Real Legend of the Ringling Brothers," "The Foot Shooting Party," starring Leonardo DiCaprio, and "Love is Strange." He also has more than 10 years of management experience, including seven years at Dantes Down the Hatch in Atlanta. Hendrix is the SCAD director of public information. |
