Design students reach new heights

Product/industrial design student Kate Gable and hang gliding instructor Bart Weghorst take in some high-flying fun Oct. 4 at Wallaby Ranch in Orlando, Fla. Gable was one of nine students who went hang gliding as research for a Department of Energy design competition. The students plan to design, construct and test a fully-functional beginner’s level hang glider during fall and winter quarters.

The glider will be made up of a minimum of 75 percent wood fiber materials in keeping with the competition guidelines.

The proposal is for the project to be part of the transportation design class. Students who participate in the competition would receive 10 credit hours during the two quarters.
