
At a luncheon at Red Gallery Sept. 27, the Savannah College of Art and Design office of institutional advancement recognized donors who have established matriculated scholarships at the college, as well as the students who have been selected as recipients of these scholarships.
Last year, the number of endowed scholarships for matriculated students increased significantly with 16 new scholarships established.
Painting student Hong Tran Hong is the recipient of the A. Gregory Peeler Endowed Scholarship. Architecture student Kristin Froistad is the recipient of the American Association of University Women Scholarship. James Seward was the recipient of the American Society of Portrait Artists Scholarship. He graduated in May with a B.F.A. in illustration. Architecture student Alejandra Holquin is the Ben Morris Memorial Endowed Scholar. The Brooke Reeve Painting Scholar is Danielle Lamberson. Illustration student Benjamin Eli Ward is the Foundation Studies Scholar. Media and performing arts student Victoria Lanciotti is the recipient of The Stanton Scholarship for the Performing Arts.Architecture student Daniela Christina Moebius is the Juan Bertotto Memorial Scholar. The Make a Difference Scholarship recipient is historic preservation student Amber Leigh Chellis. Graphic design student Stephanie Maria Bollero is the Neeley Elizabeth Toohill Scholar. Photography professor Craig Stevens established the Prix Heliographique Scholarship and the scholarship recipient is Karin Puschendorf Schmidt. The Richard F. Abbitt Architecture Scholarship recipients are Raphaelle Marmier and Shalom Foong Choong. The Silver Scholarship is a new student-to-student scholarship and the first recipient is computer art student Justin Clumpner. Graduate historic preservation student Mia Knight Nichols is The National Society of the Colonial Dames of America Scholar. This years Wachovia Scholars are architecture student Shing Wah Yuen and fibers student Megan Melinda Heath.
Freshman Richard W. Baker won a mountain bike in a drawing sponsored by Sodexho Sept. 26. The drawing was part of a service food show in Café SCAD that gave students a chance to sample potential menu items and provide suggestions.
Computer art and video/film student Arthea Benita Perrys documentary "Komojade" was accepted into the 2002 Rochester International Film Festivals Best of the Fest collection. The collection is shown to clubs, schools, libraries and interested organizations in association with the festival and the New York State Council on the Arts.
Savannah College of Art and Design has been awarded a $10,000 grant from the Chatham County Tobacco Use Prevention Program.
The purpose of the Tobacco Use Prevention Program is to coordinate strategy in controlling and preventing the use of tobacco products as well as providing assistance on policy development, and serving as a resource center for tobacco issues.
The grant has been awarded to SCAD for the 2002-2003 academic year to establish prizes for student competitions to promote tobacco use prevention throughout the community. Some of the competitions planned include: a tobacco use prevention poster design contest, an anti-tobacco mascot design and creation contest, a tobacco use prevention educational game development, and an antismoking television commercial competition.
