It’s a bird, It’s a plane, It’s a new alumnus!

Sequential art major Audie Lee Norman (left) shows his true colors after the Savannah College of Art and Design’s 2002 commencement ceremony at the Savannah Civic Center June 2. At the ceremony, guest speaker Gregory Hines (below) addressed the 731 graduates. "I want to encourage you to stay positive, just as positive as you are today, because the world will try to discourage you," he said. Hines and HBO Films president Colin Callender received honorary doctor of humanities degrees from the college. "I’m inspired by it," Hines said. "[I want] to work harder, try to be a better artist and a better human being, better parent, friend. I can’t tell you how much it moves me to be here and accept this."

Callender announced that HBO Films will add an award for producing to the SCAD-sponsored Savannah Film and Video Festival to be held Oct. 26 - Nov. 2. "Everyone at HBO looks forward to further expanding our newfound relationship with the video and film department of the college," he said. The student competition was first part of the 2001 festival and included a $5,000 grand prize.
